Skills Bootcamps

Funded by the Department of Education, Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks for adults aged 19 or over. They give people the opportunity to build up valuable sector-specific skills based on local employer demand and provide a direct path to a job on completion.

Based on the priority sectors identified in the Oxfordshire Local Skills Improvement Plan, OxLEP Skills is aiming to offer a series of Skills Bootcamps from Spring 2024. Proposed courses include Data Analytics, Amazon Web Cloud, Hospitality, Engineering/Manufacturing, Health and Life Sciences and four green courses: E-Bikes, E-Vehicles, Sustainability skills and Construction.

Skills Bootcamps are primarily aimed at delivering flexible training at levels 3-5 (medium to higher level technical skills) and level 2 in some sectors. They are co-designed or shaped with employers to respond to their skills shortages.

There is no cost to employers who recruit individuals who have completed a Skills Bootcamp. Employers contribute to the cost of training if they want to use Skills Bootcamps to train their existing employees. Large employers contribute 30% of the cost, and small or medium employers (SMEs) contribute 10%.

About Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life. They enable individuals to develop new skills that employers are looking for, helping them to train in a new industry or progress in their current career.

Based on local employer demand, Skills Bootcamps provide a direct path to employment upon completion, with a guaranteed job interview at the end of each course for unemployed individuals.

All courses are flexible and include a minimum of 60 hours of learning across a maximum 16-week period, providing learners with several positive outcomes no matter their circumstances.
